The gap between who you are and who you can be is beneath the words “what will people say?”
And why should that even matter?
Sometimes we might think we are immune to things. We might think that we are shielded from any form of disaster. Or perhaps, we tend to think that only the best of them all can happen to us. And great shock on us will be when we are faced with the reality of things that makes us question and ask, what will people say?
Do you ever get to think of, what if they say? What happens? It’s the same principle as ” damned if you do damned if you don’t”.
Do we have the capacity to believe that we shall be okay? With whatever they will say? Or,when it happens, do we then stop becoming the best versions of ourselves when they say whatever they will say?
I guess certainly not. Maybe we never stop to think that people do not actually care about the things we think they will talk about. Our in-action will keep us stuck in places simply because we are afraid of what people will say when we get to do those things that we think they will talk about.
We give people too much of our freedom to determine how we move, how we live or where we live even. Because after all, I’ll be damned if I’m found out to be doing something that is peculiar which may cause people to speak. And certainly not positively but negatively.
We get stuck in places that we could easily move from because we are afraid of what people will say. We get stuck in jobs and careers that stopped giving you life simply because what will people say when you change or choose to quit or stop what you are doing. Or maybe, you could be wanting to shift gears and explore a different side of your life, about the things you enjoyed but no longer enjoyed, but because you are afraid of people’s words, you stay stuck and unhappy.
I know we never stop to think what if they don’t say? What if they don’t even recognise what you did or what changes you are making about your life. What if they don’t see that? What if they don’t say? Sometimes we just need to move with this belief. The belief that people perhaps don’t care as much as we think they do. This is now free will.
The free will to do life as you please ignoring the background or the spectators of our lives. We may have freely given people the front seats of our lives. To determine how we shall or shall not live. Simply because we are afraid of how they will judge our actions. The question is are you able to move, ignoring that background noise? Are we able to move without paying much attention about the spectators in our lives? How easy is that even?
Free will.
I believe each of us has the free will to do what their heart seeks or desires, the question is usually our inability to move with rigor or gusto to get us to where we wish to be. Without looking behind. The free will to determine what portions of blame or favour to take up and still be able to move or move on regardless. If you reckon that there’s something you have been wishing to do or even start, how about you just start because guess what, people will still talk anyways. The question you should be posing to yourself is whether you want them to talk (if at all they do,) talk when you are in action or talk when you are stuck and begging?
What will people say is where a good vast majority of us are in. Stuck in a never ending loop. That keeps us grounded to chains we never knew existed but at the same time, makes us stay just the same with no enthusiasm about changing. They said , it’s okay to start something and fail. Even fail terrible but in that failure you learn. You get to know much more than if you had chosen to just stay the same. For fear of what people will say. To learn better you need to fail a couple of times.
Alot can be accosted about our lack of motion due to people’s expectations but beneath we know the real monster is just us who refuse to take action. Who refuse to take the next step because of the power we have bestowed upon people who shouldn’t even have it in the first place.
So what if people say!
Because they will!
I read something spectacular the other day that, sometimes it’s never about the fear of what people will say but rather, it’s just the fear of trying out something new. The fear of stepping out of comfort zones Which have become too familiar. Comfort of the same people. Same job. Same friends. Which may be hindering your true potential.
So what’s your greatest fear really?
What people will say?
Or you fear of stepping out of comfort?
