What’s your excuse..

Excuses are reasons for not wanting to do something, or starting something. And don’t we have many of these. Excuses are also hindrances to our ability to perform better, in the day today tasks given to us. And at times, they could be genuine because not all excuses are flimsy but more often than not, excuses are purely reasons given by someone to utterly disengage from a task or not do it at all completely..

We all have excuses, or we all give excuses at different points in time. I can give my own example. And most of the times they could just be reasons we have created in our head, which at times when you say them out loudly or write them down you will realise that you are playing fowl with your self. I had this excuse for a very long time that I can not work on my food blog because I do not have a proper camera to take photos yet my phone takes the clearest of selfies. Second thing I used to tell myself was I do not have time to create the posts yet I could get time to be online scrolling through other people’s blogs, other people’s social media sites, but I couldn’t get time to work on my own blog. The most famous reason was I don’t have a working table where I can get to work comfortably and even take proper photos from. Lastly was I can not use the laptop because apparently it has an issue and I had to wait for it to be fixed which took ages to fix, and my reason was always I need to blog using the laptop.

Tell you what I think all the above are just as flimsy as they sound. But when I used to talk about them or think about them they did not sound flimsy. Fast forward the blog is up and running trying to dedicate ample time towards creating content for it. Did I ever get a good camera, no I’m using my phone, the phone that takes good selfies but could not good food pictures, did I ever get a working table, no I am even writing from the bed, at times even on the sofa, at times writing while standing in kitchen, like my writing blog I majorly write in the matatus and buses whenever I am on transit. Did I ever get to fix the laptop, yes, but do I use it no. I use my phone to do it its even faster and easier to do it.

When I realized I could do the blog, without fixing any of the excuses I created for myself I thought of how very flimsy they sounded and how much time I wasted. This time was not in days, or weeks or months but sadly years. Imagine a whole three years of excuses with zero action indeed quite sad. A good friend a fellow blogger also encouraged me to keep sharing my work, continue to create content and it’s just a matter of time, I will reap the successes but most importantly was to start, start with the tools I have today at hand. Do i still need a new camera oh yes but I will acquire it later, knowing very well that I can now start with what I have today that is my phone. Will I get a working table, maybe or maybe not, I realised that food photography can be done anywhere, even by holding the product in your hands, and taking a very good caption of what you are sharing. I am not there yet, I just decided to toss away my excuses, and start, keeping my head high, watching out for opportunities of what this might bring while encouraging someone at it.

My advise to anyone looking to start anything and all you have are multiple of excuses, just go through them, analyze them, share them with someone so that you can even get to know whether they are genuine or flimsy. Most of the times I can assure if you are honest with yourself you will realise that they are flimsy. And if they are just toss them away, or ignore them and start working on your course immediately don’t wait to start after years like me. I still have a couple of things that I am yet to do and currently analyzing my excuses to see how best I can execute. On the other hand If you realize that your excuses are genuine, do something about them, get the tools you need, and if they can’t be achieved how about you pick another course that you can genuinely do without an excuse….
