SHOW UP FOR YOURSELF

Show up and be happy about your showing up

I had begun writing something down today morning on my socials timeline, as this is usually the day I do my weekly posts . The post was entitled, “Shun Mediocrity”. Surprisingly, I didn’t pursue that thought any further. For fear of that post being a mediocre itself. I was afraid of having to put down another thought that may go unrecognised, loosely translated as unread, as I thought. So I kept off, and told myself, it is not a must that I write today, I can easily pass the day, after all, maybe no one will notice. Well, that might be true that no one noticed I didn’t write anything, but guess who noticed, ME. And I said to myself, you got to show up for yourself Sidi if you truly want to shun mediocrity… And that was kinda harsh but true.

Showing up for yourself is however easier said than done, because this is an individual responsibility which calls for high level targeted commitment for one to achieve it. When I thought of writing about shunning mediocrity, my agenda was just to remind us that, sometimes we accept middle to low level results, and are even meant to be okay with them, but the ultimate truth is usually, what kind of effort did you put in to get those kind of results? Did you put in enough? or did you put in something of mediocre effort to warrant you achieving those kind of low level results?

Showing up for yourself in relation to shunning mediocrity is, simply putting your best foot forward at everything and in with everything you got, so that the end result is desirable to you. The beauty about looking at high level results, will always remind you of the endless efforts you put towards achieving that result. And these endless efforts are all but a result of choosing to shun mediocrity. Even as I go on with this, needless to remind you the satisfaction one gets when you choose to show up for yourself as it is very gratifying. It only means that you stood up for yourself, did the right thing by you and in the end, the result that, that showing up for yourself did, brought forth something so fulfilling. Like how I am feeling today, this minute, writing this article, even in just a few words, this is a confirmation of what showing up for yourself feels like. It leaves you happy.

Needless to mention, we can’t show up for negative things, as these may not have any positive impact We can only show up for ourselves on the positive light if at all we would like to spring forth a greater impact. As we all know, goodness is rewarded with goodness and sometimes the vice versa is also true. What I mean is, if I intended to wake up early and complete a certain chore early enough, this would mean that I will have all the time to do it carefully, not rushed and ultimately the result I get will be beautiful. The result would either be a duly completed task, or maybe even giving me ample time to start on other things early enough. The reverse is also true, if I wanted to accomplish something but ended up waking up late, this would mean that the task ahead of me would not be duly and carefully completed but rather rushed and maybe, I would even end up delivering a sloppy result. The ultimate result at the end of these two events will be solely determined by how I showed up from the beginning. If I showed up early enough for it or whether I showed up late for it. The results will always tell.

Also, we need to note that we just don’t show up for everything, we show up for the things that have a positive impact in our lives and maybe on the people around us but majorly on us. There are things we show up for where in the end we are left asking, did I really have to go?, Did I have to do it? How did that even benefit me? This only means that, yes, even though you showed up, you showed up for the wrong reasons, you showed up for other people and you showed up the least for yourself.

I will not sensitise this further than I have even from the previous posts I have been doing from BET ON YOU! and NO ONE IS COMING, but I will say this, you are very important, your skill is very important, and so is your talent. On those days you feel tired, worn out, confused, remember to psych yourself up and just show up. You never know what is in store for you while you are at it. If you can’t imagine it any further think about this. Imagine you operate a shop. Then on that morning, you happen not to feel like going to open the shop, you debate on whether you’d like to go or not, then something just tells you, please go. While you in there, dragging the day away, you meet this client, this awesome client, who comes and orders things on wholesale, they are also most rendering yourshop stockless because of their heavy purchases. Then in the process they tell you, you were the only one who opened up your shop early enough to enable him make that early morning purchase because he needed those items urgently that morning. You are there sitting and probably thinking to yourself, how lucky could you be? My answer is, no. You were not lucky that day. You just showed up, and that hefty purchase from that client was your reward of you showing up.

This article was just a call to action for all of us. You will notice I include myself in my own posts because I am a part of this re inventing journey together with you my readers. We have the ability to shun mediocrity, we have the ability to work on ourselves, we have the ability to be better, and lastly we have the ability to transform ourselves to be the best versions of us. All we need to do is just show up for ourselves but most importantly, choose to shun mediocrity…
